Sexual Health Q & A

What does sexual health mean?

Sexual health is one aspect of women’s health. It refers to your ability to experience sexual drive, desire, and pleasurable intercourse.

Up to 40% of women experience sexual health issues today, so if you’re struggling with sex, it’s important to know you’re not alone. Compassionate sexual health help is available at Nova Women’s Health.

What are the most common sexual health problems women experience?

Women may experience sexual health problems such as:

  • Inability to grow aroused
  • Low libido
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Vaginal burning
  • Pain during sex
  • Inability to achieve orgasm

Many women experience several or even all of these issues at once.

What causes sexual health issues?

Sexual health issues can occur at any age but are particularly common during perimenopause (the menopause transition) and menopause due to a significant decrease in hormones. Many women also experience sexual health difficulties after having a baby.

In other cases, the root cause of sexual issues could be health problems such as abnormal bleeding, uterine fibroids, blood flow disorders, or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

In addition, relationship problems and mental health challenges like depression and anxiety can harm your sexual health.

I don’t enjoy sex anymore. What can I do about it?

When sex isn’t enjoyable, it becomes a serious stressor in your life. You might feel a lot of anxiety and pressure around sex, which only complicates the situation.

At Nova Women’s Health, the women’s health professionals truly understand your sexual health challenges. They provide compassionate care that helps you improve your sexual health in a way that works for your situation.

There are many ways to improve your libido, sexual response, and overall sexual health. Some of the most common approaches include hormone balancing, prescription drugs (Addyi® or Vyleesi®) to stimulate sexual desire, and behavior changes like new arousal techniques, position changes, and lubrication use.

There are also other methods of improving sexual health, so don’t hesitate to ask Nova Women’s Health about your options during your next appointment. Every woman is unique, and the practice makes sure you get the treatment plan that gives you the best results as quickly as possible.
